How to Check If Your Phone Is Non-Eu

What Does “Non-EU” mean?

If you’re planning to sell your phone, trade it in, or check its compatibility in the UK or Europe, it’s important to know whether your device is an EU or Non-EU model.

We do not accept non-EU devices. Your device must be of UK or EU origin.

A non-EU phone is a device originally manufactured for markets outside Europe, such as the USA, China, Hong Kong, the Middle East, or Asia. While these devices may look identical, they can have different specifications, network compatibility, warranty limitations, or software restrictions.

This guide explains how to quickly identify whether your phone is a non-EU device.

A non-EU phone is imported from outside the European market and may:

  • Have different model numbers
  • Support different network bands
  • Use region-specific software
  • Include dual SIM features unavailable in EU models
  • Have limited manufacturer warranty coverage in Europe

Many imported phones work perfectly in the UK, but it’s useful to know the origin of your device before selling or buying. Here are the different ways to check your device if it’s non-EU. At Meelie Mobile, we do not accept non-EU devices. Please make sure that your device is not non-EU before sending us.

1. Check the Model Number

The easiest way to identify a non-EU phone is by checking the model number.

On iPhone

Go to:  Settings > General > About > Model Number

Tap the model number once to reveal the full identifier.

Model Number Examples:

  • EU/UK iPhone: A3293
  • US iPhone: A3084
  • China/ Hong Kong iPhone: Often dual SIM physical tray model.

On Samsung

Go to: Settings > About Phone > Model Number

Examples:

  • EU Samsung: SM-S928B
  • US Samsung: SM-S928U
  • International/Asia: SM-S9280

The final letter usually indicates the region.

2. Check for Dual Physical SIM

  • Many non-EU devices include:
  • Dual physical SIM slots
  • Different eSIM support
  • Region-specific SIM configurations
  • For example:
  • Chinese iPhones often use dual physical SIMs
  • UK/EU models usually support eSIM + physical SIM

3. Look at the original packaging

The box often reveals the region:

  • Import labels
  • Foreign language manuals
  • Non-UK plug types
  • Region codes

4. Check Network Compatibility

Some non-EU phones may not fully support UK or European network bands.

You may notice:

  • Weaker 5G coverage
  • Reduced signal quality
  • Missing VoLTE or WiFi calling features
  • This is more common with:
  • US Samsung devices
  • Chinese Xiaomi phones
  • Imported Google Pixels

*Please note: If a non-EU device is received by us, it will be placed on hold and will not be processed for sale. The device will only be returned to you once a £35 handling fee has been paid in full.
